Australian Kava recipes for drinking kava in Australia

The number of Australian kava recipes continues to grow as demand for kava in Australia increases.

Kava is a drink that has been popular in Australia for decades. This was due to two reasons. First the influx of Pacific islanders migrating to Australia since the 70’s saw them bring their passion for kava with them. Plus, since the 80’s the Pacific Islands have become a popular tourist destination. This meant Australian tourists were able to see kava culture and try kava for the first time. Unfortunately, in 2007 Australian were banned from using kava with laws brought in that banned the importation and sale of kava.

Since the changes to the Australian rules about the importation of kava in 2022, Australian kava drinkers are coming back to kava in a big way. This also means that new kava recipes are being developed in Australia.

We have listed some of the new kava recipes developed by Australians below:

Kava Recipe - Cadbury Coconut Kava

Cadbury Coconut Kava

Have you ever heard the word ‘delicious’ in the same sentence as kava? You will once you try this one.

Serve chilled as a cocktail, or slightly warmed as a pre-sleep potion. Either way, your taste buds are in for a treat!

You’ll want to know about this one because of its unique flavor profile: The fats in the coconut water and cream extract the lactones in kava more effectively so your brew will be stronger and more potent.

Kava is a great way to relax, but it can be tricky to find the right recipe. Here’s one that we think you’ll really enjoy!

Brew 50g Kava from you favourite Australia Kava vendor with 500ml coconut water. Make sure it is strained well through a strainer bag or fine stainless steel strainer.

Put 200ml coconut cream and 50g Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 60 seconds.

Whisk until the chocolate has full dissolved.

Add the kava / coconut water and whisk so it’s bubbly.

Divide into 2 mugs and top with grated coconut and chocolate.

SIP & Enjoy!

Yes, this is so yummy you can sip rather than chug

Kava Recipe - Kava Chai

Kava Chai

Kava Chai is a unique Australian recipe that combines two age-old cultural favorites: kava and chai.

To make Kava Chai, you’ll need the following ingredients:

✔️ 1 cup of kava powder (follow the instructions on the package)

✔️ 4 cups of water

✔️ 4 cups of milk or almond milk

✔️ Sugar or honey, to taste

First, prepare your kava. Add one cup of water to your mix and stir until blended. Then add another cup of water and stir again. Repeat this process until all four cups of water have been added. Leave it to sit for ten minutes before straining it through a cheesecloth so you can remove any excess sediment that may be left behind.

Next, bring 4 cups of milk or almond milk (your preference) to a boil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add 1/2 cup sugar or honey (again, your choice) to sweeten it up if you like! Then add in your prepared kava mixture and stir until combined. You’re ready to drink!
